“HDFC, historically, had chairs who have been low key and not very intrusive,” said Hemindra Hazari, an independent banking analyst based in Mumbai.

“I think his view was that I’m not going to be sitting quietly, I’ll be doing my job,” said Hazari. “If that job entails that I go up against the executive, so be it.”
